knowing what works best for you

For the last few months, I was practicing yoga at a new studio.

The convenience of the studio being less than a mile from my house drew me in, and the owners quickly made me feel welcome. While I had been enjoying the new studio and the instructors I practiced with, I knew that I was missing the style of yoga I had been practicing for a couple of years and at another studio.

I tried to convince myself that the convenience was worth not having a class in the style I prefer, a scaled-down Bikram yoga class.

In the last month, I’ve spent a lot of time intentionally planning and time-blocking my day so I can prioritize my physical health more effectively without sacrificing time with clients and my family. With this plan, I was able to return to my old studio and re-engage in my Bikram yoga practice.

Some might think yoga is yoga, but for me, the Bikram yoga class leaves me feeling better than any other class I have taken yet. So, yes, I probably could have stayed at the new studio, which I will still visit on Saturdays to practice with my favorite instructor there, and achieved my physical goals. But, I would not have felt as aligned as I do and will be practicing Bikram yoga.

The time away wasn’t a waste.

It helped me realize what really works best for me, so I could become more aligned and do so with certainty.

I’ll still experiment with new studios, instructors, and classes in the future because you never know what might be even more aligned than the Bikram class.

It’s good to experiment.

And it’s even better to know what works best for YOU.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC

"Creativity is the residue of time wasted.” - Albert Einstein I’m trying to find more time to be bored. Instead of turning on a podcast while cooking or grabbing a book when I have a few free minutes, I’m focusing on appreciating the lack of stimulation. A little more time with my thoughts. Practicing being the observer of my thoughts. Being more present. Giving my mind a rest. As you can imagine, it’s not as easy as it sounds, but I’m getting better at the practice and enjoying the peace and...

For better or worse, we have access to more information (and misinformation) than ever. And it’s hard to escape it. Twenty-four-hour news channels. Social media. Podcasts. YouTube. Group texts. I’m sure there was a time when more information would have been beneficial. Imagine waiting weeks to receive updates from a loved one overseas. Or, think about why we celebrate Juneteenth—it took two years for the news of the end of the Civil War, and with that, the freeing of all enslaved individuals....
