Tonight is the college football National Championship game between Indiana University (my wife’s alma mater) and the University of Miami. While we’ll be watching the game and rooting for the Hoosiers, I’m more interested in seeing what happens after the game with the coaching staff at IU–particularly the offensive and defensive coordinators. I’m sure both are already being courted by programs to leave IU to become head coaches, which will lead both men to reflect on what they want–what is authentic to them. Do they leave a great situation for more money? Do they stay in the system with the head coach they’ve been with for years and still make great money? Both coordinators have been with Curt Cignetti since he was coaching at Indiana University-Pennsylvania, and by all accounts are doing very well financially–the new deals they received were significant increases over what they were making just a couple of years ago. If I had to guess, they do not need to take a head coaching job for financial reasons. Maybe their Authentic Lives include becoming head coaches. A head coaching job in college football comes with a larger paycheck. But, that paycheck also brings more stress, additional responsibilities, and longer hours. I try not to project my beliefs onto others, but I don’t think I’d want a head coaching role if I could stay with a group of coaches I’ve been with my entire coaching career, be at one of the top programs in the country, make more money than I’ve ever made, and be one of the best in the country at what I do. Only they will know the right decision when the time comes–I hope they make the decision that is aligned with their Authentic Life, whatever it might be. See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC |
I'm on a mission to help more people find and live their authentic life. Check out my Daily Notes where I write a short note each day about the connection of spirit, mind, body and money on the Pursuit of your authentic life.
I hope you had a great weekend! Last week, I shared a photo of a whiteboard, which is part of a family exercise we've started to help introduce the boys to living in alignment with their values. This weekend, we worked on vision boards--naturally, the oldest two boys are dragging their feet, but Silas joined in. I'm excited to see what the other two put on their boards and then to review them at the end of the year, so they can see how many of their goals come true after putting them on their...
What aren’t you doing that you wish you were? Why aren’t you doing it? Are there external forces preventing you, or are you keeping your Self from doing it? If you feel external forces are preventing you, take an honest look at whether that’s true or if it’s an excuse. Many times, external forces exist; however, they aren’t really the reason we don’t pursue what we really want. If you are feeling called to do something, you should do it–no matter what appears to be standing in your way. There...
