omens are all around

On Thursday, I drove up to Ludington, Michigan, to hike, swim in Lake Michigan, and camp overnight with some friends. The trip up there was over six hours, which gave me the perfect opportunity to listen to The Alchemist on Spotify—it’s the only audiobook I listen to.

I wish I could explain the feeling I get when I listen to The Alchemist. The best I can do is say that the book's energy overcomes me and puts me at an extremely elevated level of energy. In my mind, I become Santiago. His journey through the desert becomes part of my current Pursuit. And omens begin to appear more than usual, just as the book explains.

Omens seen in the two days:

Bald Eagle (x2). I hadn’t seen a bald eagle in over two months; I wasn’t worried that I had become misaligned because I was still receiving other omens and experiencing synchronicities. I felt it was likely that I would see a bald eagle on the trip, and as soon as I saw the first one off in the distance perched on a branch, I immediately thanked it.

Monarch butterflies. Butterflies are one of the first omens mentioned in the book.

Ladybugs.

A sturgeon. A sturgeon is an amazing species and is rarely seen. As we walked towards it, which had washed up on the shore, it looked like a shark. It was a really special, yet sad, experience to come across such an amazing fish.

Porcupine. In addition to the raccoons that showed up at our camp, which I don’t think were an omen since they were just after food and to be expected, a porcupine showed up by one of the tents in the middle of the night.

I’m not sure what all of the omens represent—I do know the bald eagles were related to the AlignedLife Community—and that’s ok because sometimes the omens are just a reminder that there is a force bigger than our Selves guiding us and that we are on the right path.

It’s easy to miss the omens with all of life’s distractions.

Try to slow down a little and be more present and open to the omens that are being shown to you.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC

This morning, a close friend shared in a text message that he had been struggling with the word “authenticity”. What did it really mean? Was he always being authentic? He shared that he had finally defined what it meant to him to be authentic, and I have to admit, the realization that he came to was PERFECT. I told him that when I think of the definition of authenticity, it comes down to values. To be authentic, all you have to do is remain true to your Self, which requires doing the work to...

The words you choose matter more than you think. In last night’s Mindful Monday talk, I told a group of 20 teenage boys that the words they choose will impact their mindset. I specifically highlighted the word “can’t”. I hate the word can’t and have tried to abolish it from our family’s vocabulary. Saying you can’t do something is a guarantee that you won’t do something. Instead of saying "can’t," I encouraged the boys to think about saying that they haven’t discovered how to do it YET—with...
