This morning I sent a voice note to an old friend of mine. I say old because, over the last few years, our friendship faded, and I’m not really sure why. The story I’ve told my Self to accept the loss of this friend is that sometimes people come into our lives for a specific reason and time, which may not be as long as we’d like. As I’ve evolved, numerous relationships that were really important to me have evolved, and it has been much easier to see why and be at peace with the natural evolution and change in those relationships. With all of them, including the one with my friend I sent a voice note to, I know that if I ever needed anything, I could reach out to them, or if I saw them out on the street, we’d stop, hug, and chat like old times. There were no fallouts or fights (at least no events that I’m conscious of) that led to the relationships changing, just people growing and evolving in a way that led to a natural drift and fading away—a change in frequencies, if you will. Back to the voice note… I’ve wanted to send that voice note for years, but I never did. I’m not quite sure why, other than that I think I was afraid that I wouldn’t hear back. Or I would learn that I did, in fact, unknowingly do something or say something that led to the friendship fading—it would suck to find out that I was the reason. But for whatever reason, after seeing some content he was in on social media, I decided to send the voice note. And the voice note wasn’t to ask what happened, but instead to let him know how much I enjoyed our friendship and the time we had together, that I missed it, and that I’m still cheering for him and following his journey, just quietly. I doubt anything changes, but I have to say I feel much better having sent the note and letting him know how special our friendship was during that chapter of life. And I hope it is received as flowers given while the opportunity to give them is still here, rather than waiting until it’s too late, which happens far too often. In an earlier Note this week, I wrote about the importance of the people that we surround our Selves with, and this is a follow-up to encourage you to let those currently close to you know how much you love them and to maybe reflect back on those people who were once a bigger part of your life and let them know how much they meant to you. You never know what that could mean to the other person—and what it could do for you. See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC |

“Your new life is going to cost you your old one.” -Brianna Wiest This quote might sound scary because the cost of your old life is comfort, familiarity, and might even extend to friends, career, and other hard-to-let-go parts of your life. But, if your new life is your Authentic Life, the excitement of possibility and the feeling of alignment will outweigh the fear of letting go. If you’re not living the life you feel called to live, keep exploring and experimenting until you discover your...
One of my favorite J. Cole songs right now is 99 Build Freestyle off his Birthday Blizzard mixtape that he released leading up to the release of his album The Fall Off. For those who grew up on 90’s hip hop, the song is over the iconic Lox Money, Power, & Respect beat—it’s high energy and gets me hyped for the day, which is why it’s one of the first songs I listen to in my car. The title of the song, 99 Build, refers to the perfect build of a player in video games, specifically the NBA 2K...
“Authentic happiness derives from raising the bar for yourself, not rating yourself against others.” -Martin Seligman It’s always YOU. It’s always you who determines what success looks like. It’s always you who knows what your life is supposed to be. The only person you need to “compete” with is your Self. See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC
