I was revisiting the Watch The Throne album by Jay-Z and Kanye (such a good album—I almost forgot how good it was) and there were a bunch of lines that jumped out to me from the song “New Day”. I often think about how I make sure I help the boys grow into the men they were created to be and help them learn important lessons to make their Pursuits of their Authentic Lives smoother—assuming they aren’t supposed to learn their life lessons through great struggles (this is something I struggle with—accepting that they are to learn lessons on their own and I can’t protect them from struggle; all I can do is show and share and hope they learn). Roman and I were on our way to the airport for spring break when I listened to New Day, so maybe that’s why the lyrics stood out to me so much. I know there are a lot of parents reading the Daily Note, so I just thought I’d share a few of the lyrics that I felt the most: And I'll never let my son have an ego
He'll be nice to everyone, wherever we go (K)
See, I just want him to have an easy life, not like Yeezy life
Just want him to be someone people like
Don't want him to be hated, all the time judged (K)
Sorry, junior, I already ruined ya
'Cause you ain't even alive, paparazzi pursuin' ya
Sins of a father make your life ten times harder
I just wanna take ya to a barber
Bondin' on charters, all the shit that I never did
Teach ya good values, so you cherish it
Took me 26 years to find my path
My only job is cuttin' time in half (J)
So at 13 we'll have our first drink together (this is not meant literally)
Black bar mitzvahs, mazel tov, mogul talk
Look a man dead in his eyes
So he know you talk truth when you speak it, give your word, keep it (J)
Jay-Z and I are operating on the same frequency when it comes to his line: “Teach ya good values, so you cherish it Took me 26 years to find my path My only job is cuttin' time in half” So many of these Daily Notes are about our Selves, which I know taking care of our Selves is the best thing we can do for others, but I plan on exploring more about how we can help others discover what we have—especially our children. See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC |
I'm on a mission to help more people find and live their authentic life. Check out my Daily Notes where I write a short note each day about the connection of spirit, mind, body and money on the Pursuit of your authentic life.
“Inner space is the real frontier.” - Gloria Steinem I thought this was a great quote to remind us that even with all of the excitement of the recent shuttle launch to circle the moon, space might be the final frontier, but inner space is the real frontier to explore. And you don’t need to be a billionaire to explore it. See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC
I shared on social media earlier this week that Leo is in Atlanta over spring break to participate in a mini-camp for USA Soccer. Last weekend, Leo had an unfortunate jamming of his big toe on his right foot. Thankfully, he didn’t break his toe, but he did rip back the skin right on the tip of his toe—the very spot that rubs against and hits the toe box of his cleats. Possibly THE worst time to have an accident like this—I’m very aware that performance at a mini-camp, even for USA Soccer, at...
There's never been a better time to be a dreamer. Yesterday, I spent the day in a one-day mastermind with other financial advisors to build something from scratch using AI, specifically Claude. I brought the idea of a dashboard, eventually an app, that helps people monitor the alignment of their spirit, mind, body, and money. This dashboard only existed in my mind and some notes I had written down with features I wanted to see: Syncing with financial, health, and mindful apps. An analog...
