This morning, while I was making breakfast for Silas, a thought entered my mind, “I wonder if people understand WHY I write the Daily Notes, record AlignedLife, write more on the AlignedLife blog, create videos, and give talks about the Authentic Life?” I’m not sure. I then thought to my Self, “Why do I?” I asked this not because I don’t know the answer, but just as a reminder that my why is not business-related; my business is tertiary behind self-expression and helping others–it’s the cherry on top. A creator I’ve followed for years recently resumed sending emails after a long hiatus. At first, I was glad to see his name pop up in my inbox because I appreciated his ideas and perspective, but it didn’t take me long to grow annoyed and even disappointed with his emails. But since he restarted writing, all of his emails have been to sell a new service he is offering. I have no problem with people selling their services, especially when they believe in them. However, I do get a little jaded when every communication is self-serving, and there’s nothing of value in return. I share all of that in contrast to why I create. I create because I love to express my Self through the various mediums, AND I genuinely want to help more people live their Authentic Lives. Yes, I have a business and will have other services/products that I hope will allow me to help some people beyond the free content, but I don’t want to make business the purpose of my content. I want the content to be about encouraging people to challenge their status quo, sharing stories of other people’s experiences, exposing new ideas and philosophies, and documenting my own Pursuit of my Authentic Life. I want my content to be about planting seeds. I want my content to be about watering those seeds. I want my content to be about seeing those seeds bloom into new understandings, perspectives, and ultimately ways of living more authentically. I do it all because I’m obsessed with the idea of the Authentic Life and want as many people as possible to live the life they feel called to live. The obsession stems from my personal experience, and I want more people to have the opportunity to live life feeling like I feel, because it’s amazing–not perfect, but absolutely amazing. I want fewer people to experience the Five Regrets of The Dying that Bronnie Ware introduced the world to in her book, and living an Authentic Life is the way to do it. Yes, I hope over time some readers, listeners, or viewers will reach out to work with me to take what my content has started and complete the process of evolving into their Authentic Self, but unlike most Creators, I don’t want to tell you all about that all the time. Tomorrow I’m recording a new episode of AlignedLife with a new friend who specializes in reading Human Design and GeneKey profiles. I’ve read both of my profiles, but I’ve never had anyone explain the nuances that extend beyond the written summaries. As you’ll hear when the episode drops, part of my GeneKey profile is to lead a revolution. Sounds crazy, I know. When I first read my profile last year, I was a little overwhelmed because leading a revolution automatically makes me think of a war or something confrontational. But I eventually realized how true this GeneKey profile was–I’ve been leading a revolution for years now. The Authentic Life is a revolution–it’s my revolution to lead. And the Daily Notes, AlignedLife Podcast and Blog, the videos, and future content are all part of my toolkit to help me lead, and they work because the answers that will help you live your Authentic Life will be found within your Self. My content can help you find your own answers and begin to move closer to your Authentic Self–and yes, some people will want/need my skillset as a guide to help them, and I’m trusting that the Universe will lead them to ask for help so I don’t have to make my content about my work. You can expect the emails, blog posts, podcasts, and videos to continue to be about the Authentic Life and everything that goes into it, with a rare reminder that I’m here to help whenever you should need it. This may not be the best approach to achieving my business goals, but that’s okay with me because it feels authentic to me, and maintaining my authenticity is what will allow my business goals to take care of themselves. See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC |
I'm on a mission to help more people find and live their authentic life. Check out my Daily Notes where I write a short note each day about the connection of spirit, mind, body and money on the Pursuit of your authentic life.
“You don’t need more books, you need the courage to apply what you already know.” - Mohit Panchal As an avid collector of books, I know that more books won’t move the needle on my ability to keep evolving and living my Authentic Life. Don’t make the mistake of believing that a new book is going to be the final thing you need to begin making the changes you want to make or find the answers you seek–it might give you some inspiration, present some new ideas, or give you a framework to try, but...
I don’t ever remember being told how important my network would be in life. I was always taught to treat people with respect, always do the right thing, and stand up for those being targeted or picked on. Basically, the Golden Rule was reinforced by what my parents taught me and what I observed of them. But it was never stressed that by doing this I’d find my Self with a network of people treating me the same way, advocating for my success, and being willing to do their part to help me...
“The world will never be a better place if no one is brave enough to do the right thing.” -Judy Hopps, Zootopia 2 We went and saw Zootopia 2 last weekend. I forgot about this quote I put into my Notes on my phone to revisit until yesterday, when I was outlining what was supposed to be yesterday’s Daily Note–I didn’t get to write it because of an unusually full day that started earlier than usual at the orthodontist. When I read waiting for Leo to get imaging for his next round of braces...
