We just got back from a few days in New Buffalo, Michigan, which has become our little summer getaway, and it was another great trip—just a little shorter than we’d like, since we thought Roman would have an AAU tournament we would need to get back for that ended up not happening. Each morning before everyone would wake up, I’d break out my laptop and get some work done. I also had to make a few phone calls while walking to the beach or heading up to get some lunch, which I didn’t mind at all, but each time my clients apologized for bothering me. With each apology, I quickly told them not to apologize. I am always here for them, and taking a call and doing a little work while on vacation is something I’m willing to do in order to have the flexibility of owning my business. Yes, I wasn’t able to fully disconnect this week. I’m happy with the tradeoff I’m making. I’ll work a little and take client calls while on vacation to maintain the freedom to never miss games, to work from home more during the summer, to work out in the middle of the day, and to maintain the flexibility to find time to create. Sure, I could hire and build a team that runs the business when I’m not there, but that would require me to either aggressively grow the firm or reduce our lifestyle to afford the bigger team. Sure, I could put up an out-of-office message and make clients wait for me to return. Sure, I could join a team where support is provided. But I’m not willing to give up my freedom, flexibility, and vision that those options would take away from me. I understand the tradeoffs I’m making, and they are tilted in my favor. What tradeoffs are you making? Are they helping you live your Authentic Life, or are they stacked against you? See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC |
I'm on a mission to help more people find and live their authentic life. Check out my Daily Notes where I write a short note each day about the connection of spirit, mind, body and money on the Pursuit of your authentic life.
If you ever find your Self “stuck” like momentum has slowed, shift your energy from your Self to others. Elevate others.Bring attention to people you care about.Support a friend’s (or stranger you admire) business.Hype someone up.Take time for a “pick-your-brain” session. Genuinely, and without any expectations, shifting your energy to others is an undefeated way to unlock your Self and to bring momentum back to your Pursuit of your Authentic Life. See you tomorrow and keep pursuing, JC
You can be having success. You can dream big.You can be confident. And you can still be playing small. The thing is, no one will know you’re limiting your Self because it’s happening within. The outside can’t see the internal dialogue or fear that is keeping you from achieving even more—fulfilling more of your Authentic Life. You might not even be aware of the internal dialogue or fear that is keeping you from achieving even more—fulfilling more of your Authentic Life. I know this because I...
Today we drove up to New Buffalo, Michigan, for a few days to revive our family summer trip. We started coming up here in 2019, and thanks to AAU, last summer was our first year without going. I wasn’t sure how much the boys enjoyed the trip until last week, when they each mentioned on separate occasions how excited they were for our trip. I knew they had good times during our trips, but I didn’t know it had become so special to them. Building traditions can make ordinary experiences into...
