the stories of your past and future

I’ve been thinking about the present lately—trying to give my Self the opportunity to spend more time in the present moment.

I once heard that the present moment is the only real moment, and that the past and future are merely stories.

The past is a story about what we think happened through our perspective.

The future is a story about what we want to see happen.

Neither is true.

Yet, so many people allow the stories of the past and the future to rob them of experiencing the present moment.

I haven’t mastered being in the present all of the time, but drawing my awareness to the present more throughout the day has helped me come back from the future (I don’t spend much time in the past) to that moment. I’m currently reading Dr. David Hawkins’ Letting Go, which I can already see will provide great information to help me live more in the present–letting go of the stories of the past and the attachment to the stories of the future.

Just something I’ve been thinking through lately…

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC

“Why do we rush to grow? Things that grow fast: weeds. I hope you had a great weekend! I apologize for getting this week's Weekly Note out on Monday instead of Sunday, but yesterday was such a beautiful day that I chose to spend it outside and take a quick trip to our local community center to work out with Roman and shoot a little hoops with Silas. I hope the delayed Weekly Note serves as a reminder to prioritize what most aligns with your Authentic Life — the Weekly Note is aligned, but it's not as important as family time in the sun or taking...

Who does your calendar show you are? Does how you spend your time align with your Authentic Life? An exercise I’m currently working on is revisiting my ideal day and my realistic ideal day–there’s a subtle difference between the two. My ideal day consists of how I’d structure my day if there were no “buts.” For example, yoga every day at 7:00, BUT that’s in the middle of the morning routine with the boys. I think it’s important to know what my ideal day would look like, even if it’s not...
