pivot and iterate

Allow your Self to pivot and iterate your way toward your Authentic Life.

From experience, I have learned that it is ok to change direction and try again in a slightly different way—especially professionally. Through the pivots and iterations, you end up finding exactly where you are supposed to be.

Let’s take a quick look:

  • launch my firm with a barbell approach helping young professionals and retirees.
  • create a new relationship for entrepreneurs that starts with personal planning, moves to business planning, and ends with branding and marketing to help business grow.
  • explore being the advisor to other financial advisors.
  • explore working with creatives.
  • commit to life planning.
  • expand to creative entrepreneurs.
  • declare three ideal clients for life planning and coaching: creative entrepreneurs, successful but unfulfilled, and second-generation wealth.
  • collaborate with family offices to help next generation through life planning and coaching.
  • help athletes perform better on the court by connecting with Authentic Self and plan for life beyond the game.
  • help individuals with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and feel the weight of getting it right (athletes and next generation wealth).

I’m sure there were some other pivots along the way that I’ve forgotten. Some of these were short-lived, while others lasted for a while. Yet each moved me closer to where I am today, the clearest and most focused I have ever been. In finance, you are encouraged to find a niche, and it took me almost eleven years to find my niche—the niche I’ve had until now was “people I enjoy being around,” and I have to say I nailed that niche because I love the clients I have been working with for years. And it’s exciting to know who I’ll be working with in the future as new clients.

If I had worried about what others thought about my changing/evolving focus, I would not be here today. The Universe is confirming that I’m where I’m supposed to be, with the momentum I have, working with a family office and the serendipitous connections I’m making in the athlete space.

The Pursuit is about the experiences, and each experience brings you closer to where you are supposed to be. How long it will take is unknown and probably depends on how quickly you learn what you are supposed to learn.

Don’t be surprised if people tell you to focus or stay on the path you’re on, or that you are wasting your time. Don’t dismiss the feedback you are getting, but also don’t take it to heart. Instead, listen to your heart and trust it.

After eleven years of pivoting, iterating, and evolving, it’s exciting to think about the possibilities ahead and where I am taking my work.

I try not to use the Daily Notes to distribute my podcast, but the latest AlignedLife episode is perfect for the Notes. I am joined by my friend and fellow Leading Edge Community member, Jeff Williams, and we dive into his decision to leave his corporate career after 27 years. What makes his decision so inspiring and valuable for listeners is it wasn’t a decision to retire—it was a decision to leap into the unknown with the faith that he will be led to what is next. I have a pretty good idea...

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 We can choose which issues we allow to dictate our reality, and I take this to mean we should let our heart determine which issues we take up. The heart is our direct connection to your Creator, and this is why it comes first in the alignment of spirit, mind, and body. It can provide all of the answers we need to live our Authentic Life, including which issues we take on. Unfortunately, many people allow...
