operating from fear

On Dr. David Hawkins’ Map of Consciousness, fear is towards the bottom of the chart. It is described as an emotional state of anxiety and a frightened view of life.

This hardly sounds like a state of being from which you would want to operate, but many of us cannot escape fear in our lives. Even those of us who tend to tilt toward the higher levels of consciousness still fall victim to operating from a place of fear in some aspects of our lives.

Sometimes fear can be reasonable or even necessary, but ideally only in small doses.

This morning, I listened to a podcast episode of It Was Written By…with the rapper Russ as the guest. The host and Russ were talking about his music career and what motivates him. He casually mentioned that part of his motivation is a fear that he’ll disappoint his fans and that they’ll leave him. He shared that his music career is responsible for his ability to provide for his entire family—he said the music has to work.

Before I could say out loud to my Self that operating from that fear is probably not best for his music, despite all of his success, Russ then noted that it was dumb to think that way and that he shouldn’t worry—he should just not give a f—.

It’s unknown how Russ's fear has impacted his music, but he acknowledged that it has probably subconsciously impacted his creativity. This ultimately means he may not have given his fans his best work because his fear has kept his creativity from being fully unleashed.

How is fear showing up in your life?

Is it showing up in an obvious way that keeps you living in anxiety and afraid of what the world has to offer?

Or, is it showing up more quietly, like Russ?

It’s impossible to completely avoid experiencing fear. It is entirely possible to avoid living in a state of fear. It’s also entirely possible to recognize when, how, and why fear is showing, as Russ has, to work to eliminate that fear so you can move higher in the Map of Consciousness.

“It takes a certain kind of madness to go all in. Not talent. Not luck. Madness. Because most people need a safety net. A backup plan. A way out. But the ones who actually make something of themselves? They burn the boats. Not because it’s smart, but because they see what they’re capable of. Going all in doesn’t make sense. It’s not logical. It’s not safe. It’s a full-body yes in a world that worships hesitation. But 80% in only gets you 20% back, whilst 100% in gets you 1000% back. Because...
