only opportunities for growth

“I don’t got no problems. Only opportunities for growth.”
- J. Cole

This morning, a new J. Cole single hit the streaming services—it was a feature on another artist’s album, so naturally I was all over it; OFG!” is the song's title, and it starts with J. Cole stating that he doesn’t see his Self with any problems, just opportunities to grow.

I shared the song in a group text, where we often talk about growth in all aspects, but I’d say it mostly tilts towards the professional sides of our lives. When I think about Cole’s quote, I do think about growth for my business (which I will be sharing some new goals in my Omens soon), but I also think about opportunities for growth personally, spiritually, in health, as a husband, as a father, as a son, as a friend, as a leader, etc.

Maybe it’s because I’m a business owner and spend a lot of time with other entrepreneurs that most conversations about growth end up being about business, money, and reach of content. While it’s important to identify opportunities for growth in business/ professionally, I have come to learn that the growth of your Self is way more impactful in life and will often lead to the growth you seek in business or professionally.

As I listened to the song for a fourth and fifth time this morning, I also thought about how J. Cole is not only talking about seeing opportunities for growth, but that the “problems” are actually the opportunities for growth—I think I missed this connection initially since the title of the song is “OFG!”, Opportunities For Growth, and I just focused on the suggestion to look for opportunities for growth.

There will always be opportunities for growth, and sometimes they will show up in the “problems” that you find in front of you—just shift your perspective to see the opportunity.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

“You will never find love outside of you. But you will sure find a mirror of what’s inside of you.” - David Dayan Fisher You might think what I initially did when I read this quote: of course, I can find love outside of me. Ang, Roman, Leo, Silas, my parents, my friends, etc., all love me. There is certainly love for me outside of my Self. But, as I reread it, I saw it through the lens of Fisher: the love I receive from others is a mirror of the love I have for my Self. I cannot receive love...

A stream of consciousness that occurred this morning in the shower: You don’t have to know your future. Directionally, you can have an idea of where you want to go, but you don’t have to know exactly. You can’t know. There will be events, people, and new ideas that happen between now and then, which will change what is possible and what you desire. Focus on the now. What is your heart telling you to do now? Where is your intuition guiding you? Do that. Explore that. Be that. Then continue to...
