do it for you

There’s been a lot of conversation, even controversy, about Justin Bieber’s Coachella performance. I’ve only seen clips and read about the YouTube sing-along, but I’m a fan of what he did.

First, it seems that his fans—his true fans loved the stroll down memory lane, which is what really matters. Who cares what the media has to say when they aren’t the ones he created his music for?

Second, and I’m not sure if this is true, but it sounds plausible, that by playing his songs on YouTube and singing along to them, he technically wasn’t performing the songs, so he avoided having to pay royalties/fees to the label that owns the rights to the song—a label he had a very public falling out with. I love the possibility of the Creative getting one over on the corporations via a loophole.

Third, and most importantly, it seemed like he was genuinely enjoying the performance, which is even more important than his fans enjoying it.

I don’t even care about all the attention the performance has gotten, how much he was paid compared to other artists, or other details.

I just care that he did it.

His performance was a reminder that sometimes you just have to do things for your Self and trust that your true fans (yes, YOU have true fans) will love it as much as you do.

Living your Authentic Life requires you to be optimistic. The energy associated with pessimism will never vibrate at a frequency as high as your Authentic Life. Currently, there is an abundance of pessimism in the world. And while it’s understandable why pessimism persists, it keeps those who default to it unhappy and prevents them from living their Authentic Life. Optimism doesn’t mean ignoring the injustices in the world. Optimism doesn’t mean that you don’t get upset or sad at times....

I hope you had a great couple of weeks! Last week, I was in Sarasota with Roman, four of his friends, and their fathers for a father-son spring break. It was a great time, despite not spending as much time as I would have liked writing. Going down, I anticipated taking the boys to Siesta Key, dropping them off at the beach, and posting up at a coffee shop and doing a lot of writing and creating. That plan changed when we rented e-bikes for the boys, but that was ok. I got to spend some...
